A Passion for Building

Anna Kashkina has always been a builder. Growing up, she watched her mother work as a programmer and spent her time asking questions about how everything worked. Her primary motivation was a love for games, and she dreamed of making her own.

In fact, she once dreamed the entire concept for a puzzle game, woke up, and knew exactly how she wanted to build it. With six years of industry experience and a background in competitive programming, Anna came to Amsterdam Tech to take that creative drive even further by mastering Machine Learning and AI.

Making AI Play to Win

At Amsterdam Tech, we believe that high-level concepts like AI should be explored through hands-on projects. One of Anna’s most fascinating projects involved building a neural network. This is a type of computer system that learns and improves over time, much like a human brain.

Anna trained her AI to play classic Atari games. The result? Her system actually beat average human scores! By working on projects that are both fun and technically challenging, our students learn how to apply complex math and logic to real-world scenarios.

The Science of “Active Learning”

Even with her deep technical skills, Anna learned that the best tools are built for people, not just for machines. For her final project, a platform called CodeProp, she realized that just giving users the answers wasn’t enough to help them learn.

She discovered that people learn best when they are challenged. Instead of the AI providing long explanations that might tire a user out, her platform uses the AI to ask the user questions. This encourages “active learning,” where the developer stays in control of their own knowledge and feels more professional.
